I started this blog five years ago as I way to spread the word of my new favorite bands. Over the years my tastes have changed dramatically, so has music and the way we discover it. Whilst I was in my teens, although the internet was playing a big role it was magazines who had the loudest mouths. If you have stepped foot in W H Smiths recently you will have noticed the magazine section has diminished, swear it gets smaller and smaller, then again, so has the NME, I haven't bought the publications which I religiously purchased weekly in years has become brochure size.
So for me, finding new music I now turn to blogs and websites instead of the humble magazine (I still buy magazines but more on the fashion side...), recommendations from bands I like but the most useful ones come from my friends who we not only share similar tastes but understand what each of us dig. It might be the oldest method when it comes to sharing music but it gives the best results. The other day I got a text telling me to check out Signor Benedick The Moor's new album El Negro. I hadn't heard Signor Benedick The Moor, never mind a new album... Yesterday I got round to listening, I was blown away, it's aggressive without being over the top, chaotic, not messy and fresh, so fresh. Before I jumped into the album I came across Lecherous, Senseless, Debauchery on YouTube, an energetic, genre-smashing track really got me excited to listen to more.
I hope you feel the same.
