I'm confused. McBusted, why? McBusted, why so popular? Whose clever idea was it? A stroke of genius, it seems. Who'd have thought it would have proved so popular, I certainly didn't. Firstly, McFly are still releasing new material and touring. Secondly, one member of Busted is missing, that wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't just three of them to begin with.
Personally, at the time, I didn't like Busted, but that was because I was a deluded teen who thought Blink 182 were punk (the clearly aren't) and thought Busted were trying to be copycats. I have grown up since and appreciate the quality pop songs they wrote and it was the label who marketed them to a pop crowd and I think that is what put me off, they tried to be a rock band but came across fake. The reason the band ended, after having a string of hits, a couple of huge albums and sell out tours was due to the one member who turned down the part in McBusted, Charlie who wanted to be a credible musician and he achieved that with his rock band, Fightstar and his solo record. Obviously, if he'd joined McBusted that hard earned credibility would have been undone. Then again, he probably wouldn't have had to work again with the amount of money he would have been offered for the reunion so you have to applaud him for choosing art over income (he did however receive a six figure sum of money for his third of the Busted copyright).
On the other hand, I have always had a soft spot for McFly. Not only have they had tonnes of great pop songs but they were always honest about who they were. They never claimed to be anything other than a pop band and I liked that. They have been doing this ten years now, their music has grown up with them, they are still enthusiastic for it and look like they are mates. They haven't been the cheesy boy band and they are one of only a handful of pop acts to make instruments work. I just wander why they have agreed to doing McBusted as Busted will clearly steal the limelight. If I was being my cynical self then I'd say it was for the £££'s but I'm not, I'm going to hope they are doing it to keep things fresh and again, do what they do best, have fun.
McBusted, how can you even take that name serious? Do you get fries with that? Musted would have been better! The amount of excitement for this 'supergroup' definitely surprised me, it surprised them too. Tickets for their Spring 2014 tour tickets flew out in minutes, the original 11 arena dates turned to 18, now it is 27 dates. That is mental. They made their debut on Friday night for Children In Need and I was shocked how cheesy they were with dance routines, no wonder Charlie turned it down. The boys (or men, as they are now) are in demand, they can call the shots.
