#music Miley Cyrus x The Flaming Lips

My biggest regret for 2014, not going to the Bangerz tour, it looked insane.
I have grown to love Miley Cyrus so much so that she has become my latest obsession. I find her captivating. My opinions have never been based on anything that pre-dates We Can't Stop, all I know of her past is that she's a Disney kid gone wrong, but haven't they all? And We Can't Stop is an absolute tune. For me, her 'twerking' (I hate that word as much as I hate the word 'selfie'), the tongue wagging and exaggerated 'drug taking' got a little annoying but it was meant. She isn't thick, she might act it but she's been in showbiz since she was a nipper, she knows what she is doing, she knew that rubbing herself up against Robin Thicke at the MTV Awards would steal headlines away from Lady GaGa who was on a huge promotional run and she knew parents wouldn't be keen on their kids idolising a star who wore knickers and little else but Miley was in transition, shaking off that 'child star' tag.

So when I finally got round to listening to Bangerz I was shocked it wasn't a joke, I expected it to be a laughable piece of shit with a couple of big singles carefully placed within to shift some units but it is full of killer pop tunes but not just that, Miley can sing too. That I was never expecting. Just give F U a whirl if you don't  believe me, the girl has got a pair of lungs on her!
What would Miley do next? A question that has probably haunted her parents for past twenty one years. A collaboration with The Flaming Lips. No, I wasn't expecting that either. I knew they were pals, the equally insane Wayne Coyne has joined Cyrus on stage before, it isn't exactly the obvious friendship but it works. I'll never forget seeing The Flaming Lips at Sheffield City Hall in 2003, it was like the best party, probably not too dissimilar to the Bangerz tour but this five minute video is quite frankly just ODD.

I know. Me neither.
