Boom Clap finally proved Charli XCX could make it on her own as the feisty Brit has been the 'next big thing' for about the last five years but always failed to make the cut when it came to compromising he edgy attitude for the mainstream.
Luckily the singer knew how to write a hit, Icona Pop's I Love It was the first real sign that there was something worth the hype underneath the near misses which was followed by a collab on Iggy Azalea's Fancy, arguably one of the tunes of the summer. The pressure was really on this time as she wasn't just on the tip of every tastemakers lips but every Radio 1 listener and MTV viewers lips too when Boom Clap was released and it delivered. The singer is back with Break The Rules, the perfect teen anthem, fueled by hormones and angst with a huge chorus whilst she sticks to her guns, this is could be the makings of a star who has come-through too many false starts.
