Pakistan’s Muhammad Asif won World Snooker Championship
Pakistani cueist Muhammad Asif defeated England’s Gary Wilson in the thrilling finale in Bulgarian city Sofia on Sunday to clinch the World Snooker Championship title.
He is the second Pakistani to claim the title after Mohammad Yousuf, who won the championship in 1994. Asif performed a sajda to Almighty Allah as soon as he won the final 10-8 against veteran Wilson.
Asif dominated the best of nineteen frames match with 6-3 up at the break but Wilson bounced back after interval to level the score 8-8. At this point, Asif demonstrated intense skill and cue control and outplayed the rival in the seventeenth and eighteenth frame to wrap up the title.
Asif’s victory sparked jubilations at his residence in Faisalabad. He was unconquered throughout the tournament winning all his matches.
