Nicola Formichetti’s Mugler Resort 2013 collection — beautifully shot by the designer himself — is a dynamite combination of motocross rider, Japanese futurist and ladylike elegance. Primary reds and yellows pop against monochromatic black, white and slate, plus organic curves and detailing all comes off looking very postmodern architectural.
Formichetti’s time as fashion director at Vogue Hommes Japan shows through kimono shapes and strong necklines, but he keeps the collection current with sculptural tailoring, colour-block leather and a graphic reinterpretation of leopard print. Wearing these pieces would make you feel like a smoking-hot, half-Japanese femme fatale from the future.
