“Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”(Matthew 5:48 KJV)
This verse doesn’t say, “Be perfect until it gets difficult.” Nor does it say,“Find a secret hidden meaning in the verse which means that you don’t actually have to perfect.”
No, this verse says “God is perfect. You need to be perfect, too.”
Is this difficult? Absolutely! That’s why one needs to deliberately make the decision to be perfect, which is what I’m doing.
**DISCLAIMER: I’m not going to become the world’s definition of perfect. I’m going to become the actual definition of perfect, as Jesus tells us.**
The deadline? I expect that around age 105 that I will be perfect. That’s 103 years away, but being perfect is a long journey so I need to start now.
I will be recording my 30 Day journey to extreme improvement through following the two commandments of Jesus. I hope that I will have developed a host of new and better habits by November 25th.
The two commandments are spoken about in the Bible a couple times. Here is what the book of Matthew says:
“Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
(Matthew 22:36-40 KJV)
I will be following the first commandment by remembering that my time and money is Jesus’ and treating it as such. I will not waste time or spend money on frivolous things. I will remember that Jesus died to save me from sin and will follow the Bible, not what I want to do.
I’ll follow the second commandment by truly treating others as though they’re me. I won’t gossip or talk behind people’s backs. I won’t be negative or complain. I will treat others as Jesus treats people.
I hope that recording this will contribute to the effectiveness of it. I’ve been inspired by bloggers like Tri who are brave enough to share their growth journey. This is what I want to do, starting now until November 25th, noon.
