The Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) has decided not to participate in the long march planned by Tahir-ul-Qadri on January 14.
Deputy Convener of party’s Co-ordination Committee Farooq Sattar, while addressing to a press-conference said that party leadership has decided to distance itself from long march due to security concerns but it will continue to back Tahir-ul-Qadri’s ideology.
“We (MQM) contacted MQI chief Dr Tahirul Qadri and informed him about the decision and told him that we will be with him in any given condition,” said Sattar.
The decision appeared as shocking for the nation as while addressing to party workers telephonically on Thursday, MQM chief Altaf Hussain had said that party will participate in long march at any cost.
Meanwhile, MQI leader Raheeq Abbasi said MQM’s absence will not make any difference to the long march and it will be held according to plan.
