Movie Confessions Blogathon

The fantastic Nostra at Myfilmviews has created an ingenious idea for a new blogathon, called the Movie Confessions blogathon. The idea is that the participants confess things about the movies they might have kept secret for a long time. It’s as simple as that, so let’s begin with Nostra’s first question:

Name a classic movie you don’t like/can’t enjoy and why?

Movie Confessions Blogathon

Not brief enough.

Brief Encounter (1945). I wouldn’t say I hate it, but I didn’t enjoy it at all and thought the acting was bad and the film is collossally overrated.

Name ten classic movies you haven’t seen yet.

The Great Dictator (1940), Sunrise (1927), Black Narcissus (1946), It’s a Wonderful Life (1946), The African Queen (1951), All About Eve (1951), Ugetsu (1953), Night of the Living Dead (1968), Mean Streets (1973), McCabe and Mrs. Miller (1971)

Have you ever snuck into another movie at the cinema?

When I was a kid I think I tried a couple of times, but never successfully.

Which actor/actress do you think is overrated?

Movie Confessions Blogathon

Bryce Dallas fucking Howard. If there was an award for most overrated actress of all time, she’d win it. A terrible, horrid waste of screen space.

From which big director have you never seen any movie (and why)?

Hmm, this is tricky because I try and make it a point to see at least one film from all directors I’m interested in. Think I’ll stick with the classic theme and say Preston Sturges.

Which movie do you love, but is generally hated?

There are a lot of these. My choice is probably an obvious one to people who know me, but I’ll say it anyway: The Brown Bunny (2003). Stunningly underrated movie that affects me emotionally in new ways with each viewing.

Have you ever been “one of those annoying people” at the cinema?

No. I’m generally the quietest person in the room, unless I’m telling someone off for being a fuckhead (which I’ve done more than once).

Did you ever watch a movie, which you knew in advance would be bad, just because a specific actor/actress was in it? Which one and why?

Movie Confessions Blogathon

Vampire’s Kiss for Nic Cage. And you know what? It was a pretty good film.

Did you ever not watch a specific movie because it had subtitles?

No.

Are there any movies you have in your collection for five years and haven’t watched?

Not ones I’ve had for five years. Although I haven’t seen The Rocky Horror Picture Show in four years and I bought it three years ago.

Which are the worst movies in your collection and why do you still own them?

I don’t really own any terrible movies, to be honest.

Do you have any confessions about your movie watching setup at home?

Well, sometimes I watch films on the computer. Not all the time, but sometimes sure. And I used to never do that.

Any other confessions you want to make?

No thanks, I think I’ve ruined my reputation indefinitely already.
