Mountain Biking in Trinidad

Let’s get our geogeek on: due to Trinidad sitting on the continental shelf of the Pacific plate, the land has pushed together to create these fantastic mountains in the heart of the Caribbean. And boy are they something to ride!

Types of Riding

While we were out there we saw plenty of road bikers and cross country trails but there must be some downhill tracks hidden in the jungle somewhere!

It is important to note that Trinidad is hot. Like 30°C all-the-time hot, so you go through water pretty quickly and therefore the rides stay pretty short. We did a trail in Chaguaramas not far from the Bamboo Cathedral (definitely a spot to check out) and it was amazing. Even the fire road up is a great ride with a nice deserted US Navy base to greet you at the top!

Trinidad is jungle singletrack at its best. Fast flowy descents, technical climbs, rooty sections and even a few jumps thrown in here and there. But beyond the riding itself is the views, which are absolutely spectacular. Some mountain bike trails even take you to the side of cliffs overlooking crystal blue waters.

Get a Guide

Unfortunately Trinidad can be a pretty dangerous place to be due to wild animals and people with guns, so make sure you get a good guide! You can find people to take you around at several bike rental places and bike shops and there are also a few dedicated guides to be found.

Get Out and Go!

If you want a mountain biking experience like no other then Trinidad may be exactly what you’re looking for! Jungle singletrack is amazing to ride, especially if you’ve never done it before and well worth the journey over to the Caribbean – plus you get the sun, sea and sand that every holiday deserves!
