“Mother” Knows Best

Posted on the 20 January 2014 by Anna Peterson

Do you live alone and miss your mother doting on you? Do you need help remembering stuff? Do you need to know when your children got home last night? If your answer to all three questions is “yes”, then “Mother” is the device for you.

“Mother” Knows Best

“Mother” will know how many times you opened the fridge for those delicious snacks.

Sen.se (a French tech company) developed and revealed “Mother” at this year’s CES. “Mother” can keep track of how much coffee you drink, whether you took your medication or brushed your teeth. How, you might wonder? “Mother” connects to your home network (once it does, a smile appears on its “face”) and keeps track of your activities with the help of small, mobile sensors called “Cookies” that detect temperature, location and movement. These scanners gather information and report back to “Mother”, which then proceeds to analyze the acquired data. After that, it presents you with results and helpful suggestions through an app on your computer. When out of range, “Cookies” can store up to 10 days of data and will upload all of it the moment “Mother” is detected.

Applications for “Mother” are endless, claims Sen.se. For example, you can place a “Cookie” on your water bottle to track how much water you drink every day. If you put it on top of your pills, it will tell you when you took them. Alternatively, you can use “Mother” to remind you when to take them – you will receive a notification in case you forget. You can even bring a “Cookie” with you when you go jogging and “Mother” will monitor the distance you cover.

“Cookies” can be placed anywhere you want, from your door to your coffee mug.

“Mother” can also turn off your heater when no one’s home (to save power), set up notifications for phone calls and e-mails, remind you to water your plants, measure sleep quality and alert you if there’s suspicious activity in or around your house.

“Mother” will be available from February, at the cost of $222 (includes a box of four “Cookies”). You can buy four packs of “Cookies” for $99.
