I've been rounding up my reviews because I'd fallen so far behind. Last month, it was books I read in my Diversity Book Club. Last week, it was romances. Here's what's left:
by Scott Westerfeld, Margo Lanagan, and Deborah Biancotti. It's been so long since I've read this book that I barely remember it! I remember liking the dynamic of the group of teens who have reasons to dislike and distrust each other but have to figure out a way around all of that to solve the problems put before them. Their special powers make the normal teen angst look like child's play. This is the first in a series - the next one, , is due out this month and might make an excellent choice for a quick book in R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril.
Stars Above by Marissa Meyer. Stars Above is a collection of short stories and novellas set in the world of The Lunar Chronicles: Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, Fairest, and . Some of these stories had been published previously, but I didn't mind the opportunity to re-visit this world. Several are new stories and give us some background on the characters that we already love from reading the novels. The final piece, "Something Old, Something New," provides an epilogue to the series.
Brotherhood in Death by J.D. Robb. I'm totally hooked on this series of mysteries set in a near-future, slightly sci-fi world. I remember once that I stopped reading them for a few years because I'd started predicting the endings. But someone must have told J.D. Robb (aka Nora Roberts) that was a problem because I'm not predicting them any more! In this installment, gentle Dennis Mira, who Eve Dallas has an uncharacteristically uncomplicated affection for, gets bashed on the head and awakes to discover that his ne'er-do-well brother is missing. Lieutenant Dallas and her team are on the case! Book #43 in this series, Apprentice in Death, is coming out tomorrow! I'm already in the queue at the library.
