Hi All,
There has been a lot of talk in recent days about the ‘Mom’ jean. When I first noticed them in TopShops window my first though was, that they didn’t look great in the 80′s so why would they now. However, I have spent more time considering how we could all wear them and I have changed my mind, 360 style and I am now in love with a pair of jeans that I believe can be worn by all shapes and sizes for this holiday season. Now, it does obviously depend on where you are going this year, but I do feel there is a time and a place for these jeans whatever the destination is.
I remember the first time this denim style was in fashion, yes I am old enough and they were a strange commodity to me at the time Now I want to show you how they can be worn for our travels as long as we do our homework in advance.
Before you travel
For me, one of the hardest things to decide is what to wear to travel in, especially if you are going to be doing more than a single plane journey.
I am choosing the Mom jean for my travels this year. The first thing to check is the weather in your chosen destination for that day. For example a simple search for a weather forecast will give you an indication of how to style your look for comfort during your trip and layering for the climate, this will also help me to delve though my wardrobe and find the right capsule looks.
I seem to have accumulated more clothes than ever of late due to the wide selection of clothes online, so this definitely helps to find the perfect tops to match these jeans. Here is my ultimate choices for a traveling outfit that is versatile for a wide range of weather eventualities.
I have chosen this pair of Mom jeans from Moto at TopShop. I have specifically chosen this pair due to the wide vertical band down the side of the legs. As I have short chunky thighs, this will help to elongate my legs whilst looking relax and not overly styled – something I hate to be when considering a long journey. As I have a classic hour glass shape, I will be layering a plain tank top and a oversized, dip hem shirt for my top half. The tail os the shirt will cover my bottom – the one are I hate to have on display, whilst the shirt can be removed for arrival in a warm climate. For the ultimate comfort I will add a chunky knit that can easily be thrown over the top when the air con gets too cold.
When you arrive
I always choose to pack items that can be worn over and over agin, as staple for my holiday wardrobe. This cuts down on packing and leaves me room in my suitcase for the copious amounts of shopping I will undoubtedly do whilst away. As I will have traveled in these jeans, I will also want to wear either this pair, or another during my holiday. Now, if the weather is boiling hot, thick denim is not a good idea, but with the majority of countries offering us warm days and cooler evenings, I shall be taking these for dancing, eating and sitting on balconies.
I have chosen this light wash pair, for women with boyish or athletic figures – I will be sticking to the first pair – but light wash works great in hot weather and the slightly tapered leg will be fantastic with a killer pair of stilettos. For athletic figures I would always look to accentuate your curves and as these jeans scream 80′s fun then why not look at a tight T Shirt with heavy metal and shoulder pads, think pretty woman goes wild and you will get the idea.
For city strolls
I, like many of us, will be spending some of my holiday wandering around a city. I am heading to Salzburg Austria but this could equally be New York or Paris. I have heard much concern that Mom jeans can only be worn with heels and in some respects I agree but I also believe that fashion is as much about comfort as it is about style. So for spending hours wandering the stores and museums, I will be adding in a pair of low wedges or even boating shoes with these jeans, my feet need to remain happy throughout.
Again as I am not comfortable tucking in a top with these jeans, I am heading for an oversized T shirt and boyfriend cardigan – nothing is more comfortable.I have chosen this cropped pair of 80′s inspired jeans. They will work perfectly for hourglass, boyish and apple figures, as long as you style your top choices appropriately. I love a versatile pair of jeans.
So what are you holiday plans this year? Will they include the MOM jean? let me know you thoughts and be sure to check out clever little buttons packing tips, so that you don’t miss any essentials this year.
