Modern Farmhouse Christmas Home Tour

Welcome to my Modern Farmhouse Christmas Home Tour! If this is your first time here, let me share with you a bit of my decor style. I’ve always been a fan of the farmhouse style, long before Fixer Upper hit the scene. My first pieces of furniture straight out of college were from antique stores and had chippy paint. The chippier the better! I also love to combine farmhouse with California’s laid back style and more modern elements. Despite our current detour to the Pacific Northwest you won’t find tons of dark, heavy furniture here. I love all things light and bright. Also, nothing can be too precious in my house. It can’t be, I live with 4 boys! I want people to feel comfortable and welcome. And I hope you will feel that way too.

Let’s start at the front door shall we?

Modern Farmhouse Christmas Decor

I love this little corner at the front door. I used my vintage deck chair and ski poles for the vintage look. Plus, the pillow and rug add a little more of an updated feel. I have to say that my boots didn’t stay there long. I wear them practically everyday around here! #alwaysraining You can find my printable Christmas sign here.

Modern and Vintage Christmas Decor for Home Office

This is my husband’s office. It’s sort of a man cave/boy hangout where the boys play video games and hangout with their friends. I think the kids use it more than my husband ever has. But it does give him his own space when he needs it. I tried to make this room a bit more masculine than the rest of the house. But I still had to add a little pink with the Christmas Cactus!

Table Top Christmas Tree

I had a bunch of the globe lights lying around so I decided to use them on this tree. I love that they give the tree a bit more of a casual vibe. Plus, they look really cool when we hang out in here at night.

Across the hall is my office which everyone can see when the front door opens. It’s so hard to keep things neat and tidy but I’m trying. I bought these Amaryllis at Ikea and the tag said they were white. I’m not a huge fan of the color red so when I realized that these were mislabeled I was a bit bummed. However, that quickly turned back to delight as these things have grown taller than any other Amaryllis I have ever purchased. And they were just the thing to add a touch of Christmas to this room.

Simple Christmas Office Decor

This flower probably grew another 3-4 inches after I took this pic. I had to use a garden stake to hold it up because the flowers were so heavy! It’s starting to fizzle out so I think I need to pick up another one!

Modern Farmhouse Christmas Home Tour Entry

My entry cabinet might be my most favorite piece of furniture in my whole house! It’s also on of my first rehab projects. We found it in the basement of our 100-year-old Victorian home when we lived in Ohio. It was a total mess but we think it was part of the original kitchen cabinets. We made a new top and side and I painted it white. The hardware is the original and I just love it!

White Christmas Decor

I added vintage and new Christmas ornaments to a vintage style birdcage. And I hung my birch bark angel wings above. You can find the tutorial for the angel wings here. The deer are the paper mache type you find in craft store. A little white paint and glass glitter makes them just right for the season.

Modern Farmhouse Christmas Tour Living Room

This is our family room right across from the kitchen. Everything is open so to keep the flow I have a lot of the same colors going on from space to space. I have people tell me all the time they can’t believe that I have white couches, but I’m not sure I would ever go any other way. The slip covers come off and into the wash. Fresh and clean! I just found the vintage berry crate on the coffee table over Thanksgiving. I love it on my coffee table filled with fresh pine and pinecones and those awesome twinkling led lights.

Modern Farmhouse Christmas Tree

I used many of the same ornaments on the tree that I have used for the past few years. Mixed metals, lots of glitter and a few marble ornaments adorn the tree this year. At the base of the tree is my huge, let me repeat huge vintage dough bowl. It’s super heavy and while I’d love to have it up on a table it’s too big. So I usually have it right in front of the fireplace. Filled with my Restoration Hardware Style tea stained books vintage books, some greenery and pinecones it brings more earthy texture into the scene.

Modern Farmhouse Christmas Mantel

I love adding citrus to my decor in the winter. Lemons make a fresh addition to the garden urns that flank the mantel. More of my vintage style books and fresh greenery across the top. The stockings are homemade. I made them out of drop cloth and white duck cloth and added everyone’s initials with homemade glass glitter letters.

We bought our home last year as a spec home. Unfortunately, it was pretty much complete so I didn’t have any choices when it came to the finishes. Fortunately, I love most of the options that were in place. One thing they did not add were built ins beside the fireplace. This is a big priority on my to do list but until the time comes I am using this antique pine dresser to store all the games and movies. Plus, it’s fun to decorate the top! I added my wine barrel ring orb from the garden wrapped in LED lights.

Modern Farmhouse Kitchen

My kitchen and eating area are my home base. I spend lots of time here! I wanted to keep my work surface somewhat clutter free (trust me daily life piles up quickly on these counters) so I kept the Christmas decor at a minimum.

This tray can easily be moved out of the way if I need the extra counter space. But I love all the texture here. I really can never get enough mercury glass and gold  in my Christmas decor.

Christmas Kitchen Decor

Don’t you just love a lemon cypress plant. The lady at the grocery store told me that I should plant it in the yard after Christmas and it will grow really big. An interesting thought, if I can keep it alive that long! In the meantime, I’ll enjoy the chartreuse greenery in mini form.

I picked up the french style cutting board at one of my local vintage stores. I love that I can add some hemp oil to it and start using it!

Modern Farmhouse Christmas Home Tour Dining Room

Our home has a dining room but I decided to use it as my office. So all of our meals happen here. I traded out one of the dining chairs for a more casual bench. It gives us some extra seating without squishing chairs around the table.

For my table centerpiece I used a vintage ironstone platter topped with fresh greens, ornaments and a mercury glass candle holder. I think that when you decorate your home if you keep similar decor elements from room to room it makes your home feel more cohesive. The same goes for Christmas decor. If you use gold and silver ornaments in one room, use them in another in a different way. Especially in an open floor plan.

My table setting won’t be getting much fancier than this. Well, I will add silverware! But it’s just my family of 5 for Christmas this year so I’m keeping things simple.

I hope you have enjoyed your time in my home. I’m sure you are preparing your own home for Christmas and I know that this is such a busy time for everyone. Hopefully, you found a few touches that will inspire your Holiday. Merry Christmas!
