Misun – “Battlefields”

 Misun Battlefields

“Battlefields,” the latest from DC pop trio Misun, blendsSpaghetti Western riffs with soulful vocals and a robust backbeat into a hypnotically catchy pop song that lies somewhere between The Go! Team and the Ronettes. Producer and group member Nacey has crafted a song that feels like it should accompany Super-8 footage of a Pontiac GTO blowing down a highway – a bit dated, sure, but exhilarating nonetheless. “Battlefields” is a sharp maneuver from singer Misun Wojcik and Co.’s aquawave debut, taking the band from a “Daft Punk of the sea” vibe into more nostalgic trappings.

This song is exuberant, nostalgic fun; while I do hope that Misun have not entirely abandoned the sound of their very unique debut, the pure fun of “Battlefields” is a compelling step in a different direction.
