Miss New York, Mallory Hagan, was named the winner of Miss America 2013 on Saturday.
The 23-year-old Windsor Terrace-based beauty vanquished 52 other contestants from all over the United States to claim the honor. She will receive $50,000 college scholarship and the right to wear the crown for one year.
Hagan, who was crowned Miss Brooklyn in 2010, tried for the Miss New York title in 2010 and 2011 before winning last year.
“I moved to NY in October 2008 with less than a grand in my pocket, a BIG suitcase &…a lot of hope,” said Hagan, who became first Miss New York to be crowned as Miss America since 1984. Actress Vanessa Williams was the last to achieve the fate.
Miss South Carolina Ali Rogers was runners-up in the contest while Miss Oklahoma Alicia Clifton finished at third.
