Breastfeeding Week 2017 - Miracle Food Breast feeding

On the occasion of Breastfeeding Week I am sharing a post which talks about super food items which helps in increasing the breast-milk. Breast milk is the only food, baby intake from 0 to 6 months. The required nutrition and all vital minerals are packed in a way to fulfill Infants body needs as well as it helps in boosting immunity. Whatever a mother will intake baby will get the required nutrients. But, Still many mom's face issues related to breast milk production. As we enter a new phase, Prenatal, Postnatal or Nursing we have a lot of things to explore for our new phase. Breast feeding has importance for me and my child both, Most of the time during the nursing phase I heard a lot of myths and suggestions related to what a mom has to eat. Most of the time I was advised to have fat containing food like clarified butter, Dry fruits, etc. as to increase the milk supply. On one of the visits to a Lactation expert. She advised me some Miracle Food for Breast feeding, essential food items which help in increasing the milk supply.

Miracle Food Breast feeding - Oats:

Oats are packed with iron and fiber. Oats give you energy and give you a full feeling for a long time. You can have a bowl of oatmeal once a day. Well, I preferred making Paratha (Indian bread) or Pancake with oats and I enjoyed the different variations to eat oats.

Miracle Food Breast feeding - Green Leafy vegetables :

We all know the health benefits of eating greens. My Lactation expert advised eating one portion of green leafy veggies at least once a day. Spinach, Fenugreek leaves, etc. is a good source of Iron and helps in conditions like Anemia. Iron and Fiber content helps the digestive system work smoothly.

I love eating Spinach and Cottage cheese, Spinach Paratha, Pancake etc.

Miracle Food Breast feeding - Water:

I was advised my elders in my family to have at least 3 liters of water. But, it's a myth one must take adequate quantity of water to stay self-hydrated. Nursing mothers should stay hydrated as the major fluid from the body is used to make breast milk.

Miracle Food Breast feeding - Fennel:

I remember my Mother in law used to give me 1/4 cup of water of fennel seeds twice a day. Fennel increases the quantity of milk miraculously. Fennel seeds help to keep all digestive issues at bay. As well as it helps in keeping baby's stomach healthy.

Miracle Food Breast feeding - Fenugreek seeds:

Fenugreek seeds again help a lot to increase milk supply. Sometimes it's difficult to have it so I always soak spoonful of fenugreek seeds overnight and use to drink the water of it next morning. This again helps to keep your gut healthy and purifies blood.

Miracle Food Breast feeding, Nuts:

Nuts like Almonds are rich in, fiber, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and healthy monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. Omega 3, Calcium and vitamin E. Intake of few almonds a day will make you feel energetic.

Apart from the food, you eat, there are some more important things you should take care if you are a nursing mother.

  1. No stress: If you take stress the milk supply will decrease. Stay away from negativity as much as possible.
  2. Take Rest: Keep taking naps along with your baby. I know a bit difficult, but no other way to complete your sleeping routine , so you have to match your sleeping cycle with your baby.
  3. Do not over think: sometimes we moms keep over thinking about breast milk supply. You are doing your best If your baby is gaining weight.
  4. Reduce caffeine intake: If you intake a large amount of Tea, Coffee or cola Soda, etc. This may affect your baby's health and make you feel dehydrated during the nursing phase.
  5. Let your baby nurse as much as she wants: As a baby nurse at the breast, with the senses stimulation it starts producing milk. As much as a baby latch or nurse it will automatically increase the supply.

Above all, stay happy and calm. If you eat right and take proper rest, you are doing right.

Enjoy the nursing phase. Do not miss to share your thoughts with us.
