The American Fitness Index ranked Minneapolis-St. Paul No. 1 this year on their list of the best large cities for fit and active lifestyles.
Some of the reasons they gave us the No. 1 spot:
- We breathe clean air
- We prioritize exercise and keep our weight down
- We were among the first to add bike trails
- We were among the first to ban smoking in public places
- We have more farmers' markets
- We are less likely to have cardiovascular disease, diabetes and asthma
- We are more likely to be in excellent or very good health
- We are less likely to smoke
- We are more likely to walk or bike to work
- We have a high percentage of parkland, with lots of green space, parks, walking areas, ball fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, dog parks, golf courses, recreational facilities
