After gaining success in 2012, The Avengers : Age of Ultron is released this year. I didn’t have much expectation seeing it early, on the first hour and the first day it appeared in the cinema but it did happen. I was eager to see it but to say I’m their biggest fan is an overstatement. This time I’m just going to take advantage the 10 days earlier released in my country

:)

Maybe you have read the summary, maybe you know who are the new characters. Lots of flavors in one movie, but the action and superhero theme still dominated for sure. But let’s just say I missed Loki (Tom Hiddleston) who starred the first installment, and it was not the same without him. But no, the movie wasn’t bad. I did loved Elizabeth Olsen as the weird and dark Scarlet Witch. And I loved her transition. There’s also a British actor playing a new character that is not on The Avengers or the evil side, but on Life’s side. I especially loved how he was picked because his face really accentuate the wisdom look in the character’s face. A South Korean Actress, Claudia Kim as Dr. Helen Cho also refreshing to see.

There’s nothing to argue about the visual and 3D effects that it is understandable if you choose to see in 3D cinema. But in their first battle scenes in the snow forest, the 3D characters looked unreal. They certainly used the same slow motion technique of QuickSilver’s motion in X-Men : Days of Future Past. Best action moments was when they all formed a circle protecting one crucial object, and the camera goes slow motion.

The humor’s still there though I think there was even more hilarious moments in The Avengers (2012). One story development I know is Clint Barton’s (Jeremy Renner) family man surprising side. When the members are paralyzed over mind-hallucination by Scarlet Witch, Barton takes them away from the city, to his home. Apparently he is a husband of a loyal wife and have two kids, one more on the way. It hinted his goal one day to leave the team. And, Oh, there’s a love affair between the members (and not the Science Bros). I don’t know if the romance was there in the comic books, but it surely feels like a ‘seasoning’ so the movie would feel ‘richer’. It still felt sweet though.

The main evil character, Ultron (James Spader) have one of the most creepy look and feel of an antagonist in a superhero movie. Somehow his evil eyes and gestures reminded me of the scariest fictional character I’ve ever seen, the creatures in Tales From The Crypt (which I saw when I was a kid).

“‘Whosoever, be he worthy, shall have the power’, whatever man! It’s a trick!” “It is more than that, my friend!”

I think in every movie genre won’t feel complete without emotional and fragile side. Otherwise, the story won’t feel humane. Every character has their own strength and weaknesses. When superheroes can save the world, most importantly it’s because they believe they can. The word believe comes from faith, and faith comes from mind. I love how this movie showed that a superhero won’t be a superhero when they don’t have a healthy mind. When Scarlet Witch planted their mind with a bad hallucination (and stimulate their fears), the superheroes isn’t the same.

Scarlet Witch first manipulated Iron Man’s (Robert Downey Jr.) mind, by making him see how the world and each of the other members are dying. Somehow, the hallucination makes Stark feels he could do more than what he was doing. She also ‘played’ with Black Widow (Scar-Jo), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Captain America (Chris Evans). It sure is interesting to ‘see’ their deepest scars. After all of their perfect looks and skills, this makes them humane. Well, even superheroes have their darkest times.

The Avengers : Age of Ultron (2015) sure felt more dense and fast paced than before. Perhaps there were more ideas and stories to be shown in 2,5 hours. There was just a pinch of tiredness of the long hours, but I’ve been worse. But whoever produced and made this series have serious and talented skills. Bravo for Joss Whedon.
