Milk of Magnesia - The Miracle Mattifying Primer for Oily Skin????
Milk of Magnesia (MoM) is raved as a HG mattifying primer for oily skin and I have seen several videos on YouTube claiming the same. Well!! my impression is different from what has been said. MoM is actually laxative and I wonder how they came to know of its use as a mattifying primer. Reasons aside, I do believe that MoM does work......to an extent and it also depends on how you use it. Its effectiveness also depends on the place you live and how oily your face is. Considering all these parameters, the effectiveness of MoM varies from one person to another. One can only experiment it and find out if its their HG mattifying primer.  Milk of Magnesia - The Miracle Mattifying Primer for Oily Skin????

MoM gained its name from its milky appearance. It feels a bit creamy to touch. One needs to be go minimal when using them as too much MoM leaves behind a chalky appearance and it feels that way too. A little goes a long way and the MoM needs to be blended quickly. MoM gives the same brightening and tightening effect as any Calamine based lotion. Using too much is only gonna make it feel heavy on the face and look ghostly. So easy on it. Milk of Magnesia - The Miracle Mattifying Primer for Oily Skin????
I have tested different ways to use MoM and you could also try the same and figure out which works for you.
MoM on plain skin (Without moisturizer or any other primer): At times there is no need for me to moisturize, si I just go ahead and use them on my face. When used this way my face remain matte for at least 2 hours and sets to a dewy finish and remains that way without becoming anymore oilier or shiny than this.
MoM on moisturized skin: When my skin is going through flaky or dry face I do spot moisturize or moisturize them fully. When I do this, it starts off looking dewy and times feels bit heavy on the face. I feel this is not the best way to use MoM as it feels uncomfortable.
MoM on top of Primer. I saw a beauty guru on YouTube use it in this manner. When I used it this way, it felt more comfortable than using the MoM with the Primer on top. Cant exactly explain what's happening here but when I have to use a Primer I use it this way. I know it might appear redundant to use both, but if your primer doesn't do the job of mattifying your face, then this method definitely does the deed.
Effects of MoM on Skin: Some bloggers/reviewers have mentioned that MoM had led to break outs and some have raved about it. So there are mixed opinions about this one and you can only know if it works for you when you use it. There are also info on the science behind MoM and how too much of it can alter the ph of the skin and make it prone to acne. Well I dont want to test this theory out as I have only recently been having kinda-clear skin. I use it 3-4 times a week and haven't broken out yet (phew!!!). Some have mentioned that it has cleared up their acnes. Again, mixed opinion on this.
Verdict: Not a miracle product, but it does work. Its not 100% mattifying for the entire duration. It sets to slightly dewy finish and stays this way for a really long time. If you are okay with this, then this is the 'One' for you. Also do test it out if you are having any reaction to it.
Any more questions or if I had left out anything, let me know and I will get on to it. Cheers!!
