Among utility vehicles which come standard with a third row, the Ford Explorer is Canada's best seller. But the Explorer is by no means the top-selling Ford crossover, as both the small Escape and the slightly larger Edge are more popular here.South of the border, the Explorer is America's best-selling three-row vehicle, full stop. But Canadians are far more keen on minivans, thus stealing sales from three-row utilities like the Explorer, GMC Acadia, Dodge Durango, and Toyota Highlander. Minivans account for 3.4% of U.S. new vehicle sales; 5.1% in Canada.
As a result, Explorer sales are 16.5 times stronger in the U.S. than they are in Canada. The market for new vehicles is just nine times the size.
You can click any model name in the tables below to find historical monthly and yearly Canadian auto sales data. You can also select a make and model at GCBC's Sales Stats page. These tables are now sortable, so you can rank midsize SUVs and crossovers any which way you like. Suggestions on how GCBC should break down segments can be passed on through the Contact page.

GCBC isn't here to break down segments, an impossible task for any group, but to display sales data for the sake of comparison. The more ways sales data can be displayed, the better. This explains why you'll see the Wrangler and Xterra listed with small SUVs, too, and the Subaru Outback shown with mainstream cars... because readers have wanted it both ways. You can always find the sales results for EVERY vehicle and form your own competitive sets by using the All Vehicle Rankings posts.
