Michael Bay What Are You Thinking?

Michael Bay What Are You Thinking? The world of films inspired by 80s cartoons is a path well trodden and most directors, once they have made an attempt to create something . . . well, just something that vagely resembled the original idea have the good sense to move on. Now, call me a film snob but has Michael Bay lost the plot? Don't get me wrong I enjoyed two of the Transformers films (That's right, one of them sucked, try to guess which one) but there is such a thing as taking something too far. With Transformers he kept pretty close to the original origin story but with a few changes, such as the character of Spike who became Sam Witicky, oops I mean Witwicky. I can live with the changes he made to the Transformers films, fair enough I say, after all sometimes it is nescessary to help make the world of the film more plausible. But why in the name of all things retro has Bay decided to completely change the Turtles origins. It's out of this world, literally as Bay has decided that the Turtles that we grew up with are in fact aliens. That's right, according to Big Bang Bay the Turtles are aliens from another planet. (Pause for riotous laughter and scratching of heads).
If you've recovered from the shock I'll continue. So basically the Turtles will be of alien origin. If that's the case, then surely they're no longer Turtles which means they shouldn't resemble the characters that we are familiar with. Is Bay intending to target the film at a young audience? Because by changing the origins of the characters he certainly won't be drawing in the old fan base. Now I'm not saying that Bay is a bad director (He's certainly not the best though) it's just that he's had his shot at bringing a retro franchise to the big screen, it's time he moved on to something else.
