The Met Ball 2014 celebrated The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s exhibition on Charles James who has been called America’s first couturier. (Middle the picture above.) In the 1940s Charles James was known for his glamorous ball gowns and having a rich society clientele. The dress code for the Met Ball was “White Tie and Decoration.” Here’s who I loved on the night and who I thought got it absolutely right, balancing the modern with the traditional.
Blake Lively was my favourite in her custom made Gucci Premiere gown.
Beyonce looked elegant and edgy in Givenchy Haute Couture.
Lupita Nyong’o in a Prada creation.
Anne Hathaway looked sophisticated in Calvin Klein.
Emma Stone looked so pretty in pink. The skirt is Thakoon.
Amy Adams shone in Oscar De La Renta.
Models Jouran Dunn and Toni Garrn in romantic TopShop.
Sarah Jessica Parker looked glamorous in her Oscar De La Renta ball gown and white gloves.
Karolina Kurkova in a statement Marchesa.
Charlene Theron looked a classic beauty in Dior Couture.
HONORABLE MENTION…
I thought (L-R) Alexa Chung in Nina Ricci, Lea Michele in Altuzarra, model Joan Smalls in Vera Wang and Selena Gomez in Diane Von Furstenberg kept it young and elegant.
WHAT WERE THEY THINKING…?
I thought there were a few duds of the evening as well. (L-R) Kate Upton looks like a Sicilian widow in Dolce & Gabbana, Katie Holmes channels Disney’s Belle, Elizabeth Olsen in Miu Miu looks like she is ready for the ice-rink and Sailene Woodley’s Rodarte gown just makes me dizzy.
