Mercantile Square, Piazza Mercantile in Bari

Today there is a first sun and it seems to be in Spring time. Maybe the freezing cold winter is leaving us to be replaced by the first buds of the spring?   Pursuant to the calendar we are near to the spring and I would like to think it is coming . So it's time to wear your tennis shoes and go to visit the beauties of Italy. There is always something to see. Imagine  to be a Sunday in the beautiful city of Bari. You are in front of the sea and you are  in of the most important ports of the Adriatic Sea.
Personally I’m a bit obsessed  with  the art and some friends of mine suggested me to visit the old Bari.

From my guide I have found that this city is really old and active in trade since the days of the Greeks.  Indeed, it could not be different. That makes sense!. In the south of Italy  there was the domain of Magna Graecia,  therefore Bari  - thanks to its geographical location – was ( and it still is) an important center for the trade!
Pursuant this logic, Bari has always been an important  city even for the cultural exchanges,  also because these are inevitably independent from commercial ones.
Bari vecchia has a special charm. Maybe because I love walking in the maze of the narrow streets with the traditional small shops; maybe because this old city is full of the churches and  of the historic houses that take your breath away for the beauty; maybe because the  people are always smiling here ,  the fact is  that the charm of this place is amazing and the sun seems even more warm and pleasant.

My program is accurate and I know that I can see hundreds of other wonders among these narrow and fascinating streets, but certainly I would not want to miss:

• la Basilica di San Nicola

It will be a good beginning! The copious pubs and restaurants in this old town comfort me: I’m in the right place for lunch and I will surely have a good chance to make a great meal. The problem will be to walk again after the lunch. Suddenly the narrow streets enlarge and I  see Piazza mercantile. My first thought?  This square is absolutely in line with the task of this city to be a commercial and cultural point of the exchanges. I will focus on this square. I look around and the predominant color is the beige. Illuminated by the sun it gives a sense of warm.
I look around to identify what surrounds me. I imagine the old  exchanges and the business here. The Palazzo del Sedile  and the magnificent buildings belonged to the families of Bari  immediately  stand out. The buildings are low and all is clear.
At the center of the square there is the colonna della giustizia which stands on a stone lion. This column is called "infamous" because once the bankrupts and the debtors were bound here. The palazzo del Sedile is another element of a great importance because it was the administrative headquarters for the city in the. The square is really beautiful to see and your photos will be great. If you're in the Christmas time you will find the area full of the stands. What about the summer? You can walk to the square and maybe attend the "Summer nights" with some pleasant concert. Welcome to Bari!

Oggi c’è un primo sole che pare avere l’aria quasi primaverile: che il freddo gelido inverno ci stia abbandonando per dar posto ai primi boccioli della primavera? Diciamo che da calendario non manca molto tempo quindi sarebbe piacevole poter pensare che la bella stagione sia in arrivo. Quindi è tempo di indossare scarpe da tennis e andare a visitare le bellezze dell’Italia. C’è sempre qualche cosa da vedere. Mettete di trovarvi una domenica nella bella città di Bari: siete in fronte al mare ed è uno dei porti più importanti del mare Adriatico. Io però sono fissata con l’arte e mi hanno suggerito di visitare assolutamente Bari vecchia. Dalla mia guida scopro che questa città è veramente antichissima ed attiva negli scambi commerciali sin dai tempi dei Greci. Effettivamente non potrebbe essere differente. Il conto torna. Se il sud dell’Italia era stato interessato dal dominio della Magna Grecia , vista la posizione geografica di Bari è ovvio che viene da pensare che potesse essere un punto importante per gli scambi ( lo sia ancora)! A fronte di questa logica Bari è sempre stata quindi di grande importanza per gli scambi anche culturali perché inevitabilmente questi prescindono da quelli commerciali. Bari vecchia ha veramente un fascino tutto particolare: sarà che amo passeggiare nei dedali di vie strette con botteghe caratteristiche, sarà che questa cittadina antica è ricca di chiese e palazzi d’epoca da togliere il fiato, sarà ancora che la gente è sorridente, sta di fatto che il fascino di questo luogo è incredibile e il sole sembra anche più caldo e piacevole. Il mio programma è preciso e so che mi imbatterò in altre centinaia di meraviglie per queste vie strette e affascinati ma sicuramente non vorrei perdere: la Cattedrale di San Sabino la Basilica di San Nicola la piazza mercantile palazzo Simi Palazzo del Sedile
Come inizio non male! Le  numerose osterie e trattorie  in questa città vecchia mi confortano: per pranzo sono nel posto giusto e sicuramente avrò occasione di fare un pasto ottimo. Il problema sarà riprendere a camminare dopo. Per come la vedo io ci penseremo a  tempo debito. Ad un trattato le strette vie si allargano e mi si apre di fronte Piazza mercantile. Primo pensiero? Assolutamente in linea con l’importanza di luogo di commerci e  scambi culturali che Bari ha sempre rivestito . Mi soffermerò su questa piazza. Mi guardo intorno  e il colore predominate è il beige. Illuminato dal sole  da un senso di calore incredibile. Mi guardo intorno per tentare di identificare che cosa mi circonda. Immagino gli scambi di un tempo e gli affari che qui si potevano svolgere. Mi salta subito all’occhio il Palazzo del Sedile e magnifici edifici appartenuti alle famiglie di Bari. I palazzi sono bassi e tutti chiari.  Al centro della piazza ecco il simbolo “la colonna della giustizia” che si erge su un leone in pietra. Questa colonna è chiamata la “ colonna infame” perchè un tempo erano legati, come se fosse una gogna i falliti e i debitori. Il palazzo del Sedile è un altro elemento di grande importanza perché fu sede amministrativa per la città nei secoli passati. La piazza è veramente  bella da vedere e le vostre foto saranno splendide. Se capitate nel periodo natalizio troverete la zona piena di bancarelle e d’estate? Si può passeggiare per la piazza e magari assistere alle “ notti d’estate” con dei piacevoli concerti.
