Meet Geoffrey, My Dragon... Holding His Blue Ball

By Homesmsp @HomesMSP

“Some changes look negative on the surface but you will soon realize that space is being created in your life for something new to emerge.” ― Eckhart Tolle

Meet Geoffrey (Jeffrey).  We've been together for nearly 35 years.  He spends most of his time on my work desk.

Take a good look at him.

What is he thinking?

I've always seen him as - worried, leary, protective.  What is it he's worried about?  He's worried that someone's going to take his blue ball. Just snatch it away!

Losing the ball would be extremely hard on Geoffrey. Letting go of a blue ball is filled with fear and anxiety.  Some people are affected more than others, but all of us must deal with it several times in our lives.

Having blue balls in our lives is very natural, they are things that grow on us, we get used to them - they give us stability and surety.

What is your "blue ball"?

Often time our houses seem to be big blue balls. A house, however, is just a building - not the home where we invest our lives, our loves, the foundation allows us to hope and dream for the future.

Do you see the "catch 22" of that? To think and plan for change we need the stability of home. Thankfully our homes are portable.  You can bring your home to another place when you leave your house behind. So, use the foundations you have to tackle change.

Your house is not a blue ball, but there are fears of the changes that must happen.  These fears and emotions can cloud judgement, making good decisions difficult.

What is your "blue ball" - talk about it with your spouse, parents, children or friends.

When it comes time to sell your house or buy a new one, it's helpful to have an understanding Realtor, one who listens, is patient and truly cares about you and your fears and worries.

I love Geoffrey, he's my reality check.  When I try to "possess" something - I know there's another blue ball waiting for me, somewhere. It's a trust thing.

John wrote the post above and reading it made me (Sharlene) think of some experiences I had just this week.

  • One woman moved her 'blue ball' by closing on the sale of the house where she had lived for 23 years... and buying a historic co-op the same day.
  • A couple days later I met with a woman who is preparing to leave the house where she has lived the last 41 years... a huge job downsizing and moving her 'blue ball' to a retirement community... she now has a plan in place, which can be the hardest part of the process.
  • Yesterday I met with a young family getting ready to sell their current house and move to another one nearby that better meets their priorities.
  • A couple who has relocated across sthe country for an awesome career transition is coming to an agreement for the sale of their Twin Cities house with a young first-time homebuyer.
  • Today I expect to meet with a woman who is relocating here for an exciting new position... she is moving her 'blue ball' to create a new home in the Twin Cities.

Give us a call when you are ready to move your 'blue ball'... we would love to help, whether you are buying your first house, selling your last, or anywhere in between.
