Meaty Meal at The Meat Co., Souk Al Bahar

By Tasneem Rajkotwala @tasu0704

Souk Al Bahar has become one of our favorite places in Dubai to escape the crazy crowd of The Dubai Mall and watch the fountain whenever we have guests visiting us in the city. And a little off-center located, The Meat Co. is a fabulous location to rewind and gorge on an al fresco hearty meal with the mighty Burj Al Khalifa for a view.

This South African steakhouse is every bit rustic from decor to the amber lightings and to the cutlery, with a sassy backscore music. As we seated, our server kept us occupied in a friendly conversation, taking us through the meaningful stories of the restaurant. He also suggested we go in for the platter as a start off so we get to taste a bit of everything. And sure is the plate a def share between 2 adults as it came loaded with two pieces each of grilled lobsters, pan fried prawns, sauteed mushrooms in hollow puff patry cases and rib meat with burrata cheese to smear; for a great bite to cream texture in the mouth. Each bite on the platter were tender, well flavored and prepped us for the course to follow.

Slowly making our way through the entrees, peeking at The Meat Co.’s charm with diners actively working up their forks and knives and inching closer towards a South African fine-dining,  the meat had to be finally called for. Husband’s choice for the evening was a beautifully presented Silver Fern New Zealand fillet, that he tells me was succulent, soft and every bit well cooked that a beef should be. A generous serving of  200 gms with buttery goodness and The Meat Co.’s exotic marinade, the dinner sure gets delightful.

Being a non-beef eater myself, I cocooned to a flame grilled Chicken Skewer marinated in Middle Eastern spices. Although not a ground-breaking choice in the restaurant known for its super-aged meat specialities, chicken sure didn’t feel out of place.

Off late, Little A is obsessed with fish fingers and we were so lucky to find that on the menu.  Now, the fish fingers here are not typically soggy but crisp and wonderfully fried makes for good mini meal for the little ones at the table. Also, the potato wedges that accompanied tasted fresh and were deep fried to a beautiful golden brown.

After all that meaty goodness, we deserved sweet treats. The Meat Co.’s menu is extensive and it also develop towards the dessert section with many fantastic choices. Indecisive, we picked up a dessert tasting platter for two. It is a well thought tastings of favorite sweet treats from the menu – mini jars of cheesecake, apple crumble, tiramisu, crème brulee and chocolate cake satiated our creamy sweet tooth cravings very well although not postering on a total sugary rush.
