By Natacha Neveu @thesortinghouse

TheSortingHouse - Sorting the amazing from the awful…

Lundi is Monday and Leopard is Leopard - in French!

Welcome to the Lundi Leopard a day late, where each Monday (or Tuesday woops) I bring to you a leopard print nail design. This week I wanted to delve into some manis worthy of Valentines day, so expect a lot of pink!

Keep reading to find out how I achieved this matte pink ombre leopard print nails design. As always you can Shop the Look near the end of the post. Don’t forget to get in touch, you’ll find all my deets under the Over to You section. There’s an index menu to the right hand side to help you navigate.

I used L’Oreal 7 in 1 Saviour La Manicure as a base coat. I went on to paint each finger a different colour, from darkest to lightest – thumb to pinky.

  • Thumb: Maybelline Color Show Bubbilicious
  • Index: 17 Lasting Fix Pink Grapefruit
  • Middle: Barry M Pink Flamingo
  • Ring: Barry M Strawberry Icecream
  • Pinky: Mavala Riga

I used Jessica No Shine Matte Finish Top Coat to matte out the gloss. I actually did two coats to see what would happen, but I don’t think it made much difference.

Using Sally Hansen Mega Shine Top Coat and a thin nail art brush, I dotted and dragged random C shapes, squiggles and dots to form the contrasting leopard print design.

The above picture shows what the matte ombre polish looked like in natural light, and before any shiny leopard print design. No actual top coat on this design otherwise you lose the contrast between the matte and gloss.

I don’t think the leopard print is pronounced enough, but I am a bit of a leopard print addict. So for anyone who isn’t too sure about animal print, this is the perfect way to wear this trend without it being too in your face.

I also think that using darker colours, for example black – would make the matte/gloss contrast more pronounced (which I’m sure I’ve seen floating around Pinterest) However for an understated, girly and almost textured leopard print design this is perfect.
