It’s felt like a new front runner for the role of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Sorcerer Supreme Doctor Strange has bee a constant headline around the interwebs for the past few months since Comic Con, but it now seems that Marvel has finally found their Doctor Strange in the form of Benedict Cumberbatch.
Deadline is reporting that Cumberbatch is in final negotiations to headline his own film as the sorcerer supreme, with the film assuming to fill the previously announced July 2016 release date.
Since news broke that talks with Joequin Phoenix fell apart and ended, many different names have been floating around and rumored, but with an announced special news event tomorrow, it looks like this rumor is the one to listen to.
If Cumberbatch does sign on, it’ll be a strong addition to the MCU, and will likely be a challenge for some to see him in the role after seeing him as BBC’s Sherlock and Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness. I personally am just happy we have him in the MCU, and can’t imagine him really being able to fill many other roles.
No official announcement from Marvel Studios has been made to this point, but be on the look out tomorrow for news related to this and possibly more to drop during their press event.
