Manushi Chhillar Miss World 2017

Manushi Chillar made the entire nation proud by winning the coveted Miss World title after 17 years.  On November 18, 2017 Ms. Chillar was crowned Miss World, 2017 pageant held at Sanya Arena in China. She is the sixth Indian beauty to bring home the crown. Around 108 women from across the world participated in the beauty pageant. Miss Mexico, Andrea Meza was the first runner up and Stephanie Hill, who is Miss England was second runner up.

The Miss World contest is not just about looks as the pageant judges the contestants on various other aspects of the personality. Their spontaneity and intelligence with which they answer the questions asked in the final round is a key factor that influences the judges. Ms. Chhilar gave a touching answer to the question she was asked in the round of five. She was asked which profession according to her deserved the highest salary. Ms, Chhillar’s answer was,

“I think a mother deserves the highest respect and when you talk about salary it’s not always about cash but I feel it’s the love and respect that you give to someone. My mother has always been the biggest inspiration in my life. All mothers sacrifice so much for their kids. So, I think it is the job of a mother that deserves the highest salary.”

The world has now six Indian Miss Worlds, with Manushi Chhillar being the latest addition.

Hailing from Haryana, Manushi Chhillar is 20-year-old and born to doctor parents. She studied in St. Thomas School in New Delhi and Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Sonepat. Ms. Chillar aims to be a cardiac surgeon and has plans of opening non-profit hospitals in rural areas. She is a trained classical dancer and has a passion for outdoor sports like scuba diving, snorkeling and bungee jumping. Her father, Dr. Mitra Basu Chhillar, is a scientist at the Defense Research and Development Organization, while her mother, Dr. Neelam Chhillar, is an associate professor and department head of neurochemistry at the Institute of Human Behavior and Allied Sciences.
