THE SHOWS Deadliest Catch We've all been watching Deadliest Catch for 10 years now. Yep, that's right, 10 years. The thing that makes us come back season after season is not just the ships and their crews and their stories but the fact that it's a world and a life so different than our own. It's a job that is unbelievably rough, smelly, dangerous, strenuous, slippery, wet, exhausting and truthfully…brutal. All these years of watching, we've seen women in the kitchen here and there, but never out on deck. Never handling 25 pounds of bait at a clip, hauling frozen fish, getting beaten by enormous waves and keeping up with all of the men…until now. Mandy Hansen's 18 years old and she says that fishing is in her blood. She proved not just to all of us, but to her Dad, her uncle, her crew and herself that it definitely is and that a woman can get out on that deck. We've seen greenhorns every season who can't do the job, who are miserable, and who are a mess on those boats. Mandy, this little 18 year old thing kicked ass out there. My husband and I always say we wouldn't last 5 minutes on one of those boats. Mandy…YOU ROCK! Nothing better than seeing a proud papa. Sig was smiling ear to ear watching his daughter on his families boat. Even Uncle Edgar gave her kudos. I think we were all rooting for her to make it and we know she'll be coming back. We were also rooting for Scott Cambell to come back. Against doctors orders, he's back 13 weeks after his back surgery. Probably not a good idea, but a guys gotta earn a living. Hard to root for Elliot. I can't stand looking at him or hearing him speak. Problem is he seems to always get on the crab big time, but lets end this on a good note. Congratulations to Mandy Hansen I hope a lot of little girls were watching you, Mandy.
Tyrant I still like this show, but someone pointed something out to me recently that sort of ruined my viewing experience. This entire story takes place in Abudin, a fake Arab country where everyone seems to only speak English. Sure I could understand the Al Faheed family speaking English when Barry/Bassam and his family is around but when leaders are meeting, highly unlikely that they'd be speaking English. It was a bit of a stretch that BB barely looked middle eastern, but he has a white Mom, so we went with it, but my friend is right. Most of the leaders and all of the countries citizens wouldn't be speaking English. BB scheduled a meeting with Ehab and blew him off intentionally as part of his strategy then, he met with Ehab's Dad and they spoke English. Wouldn't he want to speak to the man in Arabic as a sign of respect and solidarity? We all thought it didn't go well, until the guy showed up at the end of the episode. BB's wife was super annoying and seemed to be carrying some Vicodin for the trip. No explanation why she had it, but Rima tried, poorly, to steal it from her and I guess she too is a doctor all of a sudden because she went and helped Rima's brother who got hurt in the plaza. Ahmad and Nisrat still haven't had sex which is making Ahmad insane. She went home to her parents and told them she needed a divorce because Jamal raped and impregnated her. Her Daddy tried to help, but it just got him strung up and shot. No divorce.
