According to a new study carried out amongst small care home providers, the majority of residents wouldn’t hesitate in recommending their care home to a friend.
The survey was carried out by healthcare research specialists Howard Warwick Associates (HWA) and only covered homes with less than 15 residents and providers with no more than 5 homes. Researchers revealed that a huge 95 per cent of care home users would give their home a recommendation, and the same percentage said that their accommodation was good. There was good news for care training standards too, as 98 per cent of care home residents said that the staff at their home were helpful and friendly.
Other results from the poll, which had more than 1,000 respondents, were as follows:
• 93 per cent of residents were definitely or generally happy with the activities available to them at their care home
• 83 per cent were definitely or generally happy with activities on offer outside the home, in the local community
HWA’s managing director David Leach said of the survey results:
“All too often we are confronted with negative images of care homes but our survey results clearly demonstrate that standards have improved and residents are enjoying a good quality of life,”
