Mad World by Tears for Fears.

Posted on the 16 July 2012 by Melodicwisdom

Man, I really love Tears for Fears lately. And goodness, Curt Smith (seen first) is so cute! I’ve never heard them live but I’ve watched a few videos with special performances and they are so talented. Who knows, maybe I’ll catch one of their shows sometime.

Mad World was released as a single in September of 1982 from the band’s debut album, The Hurting. The lyrics were written by Roland Orzabal (who sings their other hit, Head Over Heels)  when he lived above a pizza restaurant in Bath and could look out onto the city.

It went to #3 in the UK, #5 in Australia, and #6 in Ireland. Surprisingly, it never made the Billboard charts in the United States. In 2001, Gary Jules did a cover version for the movie, Donnie Darko.

Above is the official video.
