Love Me, Feed Me: The Adoptive Parent’s Guide to Ending the Worry About Weight, Picky Eating, Power Struggles and More is a relationship-building, practical guide to help Fostering and Adoptive Families enjoy family meals and raise children who eat a variety of foods and grow to have the body that is right for them. Grounded in science, but made real with the often heart-breaking and inspiring words of parents who have been there, Dr. Katja Rowell helps readers understand and address feeding challenges, from simple picky eating to entrenched food obsession, oral motor and developmental delays, “feeding clinic failures,” and more. Though written primarily for the Adoptive and Fostering audience, Rowell, aka, the “Feeding Doctor,” shares that her clients are more alike than different. “This book is a distillation of the advice and support I provide all my families as they transform a troubled feeding relationship into a healthy one, and bring peace and joy back to the family table.”
About the Author
Family doctor turned childhood feeding specialist, Katja Rowell MD, graduated from a top-ten medical school and noted in her practice how many of the problems she saw stemmed from an unhealthy relationship with food. When Dr. Rowell became a mother, she realized she knew what to feed her own daughter but not how. What she learned transformed her own home and prompted her to dedicate herself to helping other parents learn how to feed. Rowell believes how is the key to what kids eat, and helping kids have a healthy relationship with food and their bodies is the best preventive medicine there is. Rowell has a passion for helping adopting and fostering families who may face unique challenges with feeding. She consults with parents by phone, as well as “house-calls” in the Twin Cities metro. Dr. Rowell is also the family cook, blogger, and mother of a grade-schooler.
