Looking After Myself

What does it mean to look after yourself?
Taking care of yourself may seem like a full-time job. Neglecting that "job" though can harm your confidence, relationships and enjoyment of life. It is important to take care of yourself as it ensures a happier and healthier life, as well as helping you to be more a part of the community you're in. - WikiHow
Lately a lot of people have been telling me to look after myself. I have been left to over-think/analyse the phrase "look after yourself". Did it mean "take care" or quite literally look after yourself.
Over the course of 6 months my self-confidence plummeted to an all time low. It was the worse anyone had seen me, my friends, my family and my school. I literally lost control over everything. I wasn't eating, I wasn't happy - emotionally and mentally. So was "look after yourself" related to this? Probably.
Self realisation has made me understand that I have not looked after my self well at. In consequence I had to deal with the blues, mood swings, anxiety and tears in general. But, in my mind set at the time I thought comments made were all compliments. Like "you've lost lots of weight." I thought "WOW" and was really proud of myself. However, the rapid weight lose of 20 lbs in very little time was unrealistic for a mere sixteen year old.
How I am going to change this, I may ask. I will hopefully stay in a positive mind-set. I will live for the moment and enjoy myself. I will speak to people (talking is the best therapy). I will sleep and not spend 90% of the night thinking negatively. I will stop my rituals. I am determined not to let my nervousness take over my life. Of course it will take a while but in the long run it will be important as poor care for yourself can put you in danger.
"I will change for the better."
I hope my readers leave to put themselves first. Yes, the wellness of your peers is important but sometimes being selfish is necessary. If you don't look after yourself, it will take a toll of you and your loved ones. In all seriousness don't harm yourself. Put your needs first! You are not the lowest denomination.
