This older bottling of the Longmorn 15 years was replaced by the current Longmorn 16 a few years back. It’s not impossible to still spot these bottles from time to time and if you come across one I’d recommend picking it up, especially if the store owner hasn’t updated the pricing on it recently, because of the two (the current 16 & the old 15) I’d rather have the old 15. Not by a huge margin mind you, but enough that if they were on the shelf for the same price I’d be taking the 15 home with me.

EYE
Caramel
NOSE
Dark sweets, malt, dark fruit, graham and overripe fruit with light notes of caramel and grain. It sounds nice and that’s because it was. A nice pleasant nose that wasn’t anything mind blowing, but definitely a satisfying sniff.
PALATE
Roasted malt, caramel, vanilla, spice, a funky old wood profile and a bit of sulfur that slips into overripe fruit before heading to the finish. Interesting and intriguing, but again nothing mind blowing.
FINISH
Medium fade of malt, fudge, caramel, citrus and old wood.
BALANCE, BODY & FEEL
A little off on the balance, medium body and an average soft feel to it.
OVERALL
If you see an old bottle of this Longmorn 15 sitting on the shelf I recommend grabbing it unless the price is something crazy. The fruity and malty notes are about what you’d expect coming from Speyside and the touch of sulfur makes me think some sherry casks were employed, but I can’t find a lot about this older bottling online. Regardless, the Longmorn 15 years is a dark, funky and interesting whisky that’s worth a try if you get the chance.
