Fairy House

A tiny house in a fairy garden

Top Ten Tuesday was fun last week, getting to see everyone’s favorite books so far this year. My list is half fiction and half nonfiction. I’m looking forward to this Tuesday, too, with the topic of books on our Summer To Be Read list.

I posted photos over the weekend of the Garden Tour that I went on a week earlier — visiting gardens all over St. Louis and St. Louis County. There were two posts, one for Saturday Snapshots of fun and whimsical things I saw and one for Weekend Cooking of vegetable gardens and chickens!

Read

London Under by Peter Ackroyd

The Secret History Beneath the Streets

For British Isles Friday, I posted my review of London Under by Peter Ackroyd, a book about the archaeology, buried rivers, and tunnels beneath London. It was so fascinating that it led me to add some new sites to the list of things I want to see in London when we go later this year.

Reading

Substitute Me

June selection for the Diversity Book Club in Kirkwood, Missouri

I am still reading The Illustrated Longitude by Dava Sobel and William J. H. Andrewes and London by Edward Rutherfurd. They are going to take a while.

To be fair, though, I dropped them both to make sure that I got my Book Club selection read before our meeting. We’re reading the novel Substitute Me by Lori L. Tharps. I only have a few chapters left, so I’ll get it done before Thursday night. I think we’re going to have a terrific discussion about modern life, the roles of women, and domestic help.

I’m still reading Blameless by Gail Carriger on my phone. Sometimes, I seem to forget about the book on my phone and it takes forever to get one read, but I think I’ll finish it this week.

Will Read

I thought I would read Gail Carriger’s Heartless, the next book in the Parasol Protectorate series, after Blameless, but I think I’ll give that a break. Instead, I’ll read the e-ARC I just received: Pies & Peril by Janel Gradowski — it looks like a fun cozy culinary mystery. Great for summer!

What are you reading?
