Llandough Hospital Improves Food Hygiene After Dismal Rating

Posted on the 22 June 2013 by Gareth Jones @tutorcare

After receiving a zero food hygiene rating, out of a possible score of five, the University Hospital Llandough has announced that it will be taking urgent action to improve its approach to food hygiene.

The Cardiff and Vale University Health Board has responded quickly to a damning food hygiene inspection report, with UHB chair Maria Battle saying:

“We take food hygiene very seriously and to receive a zero rating was both shocking and totally unacceptable,”

“There are no excuses to be made here. It was simply a case of poor practice, combined with some equipment failure which, unfortunately, led to this intolerable state of affairs.”

Ms Battle has confirmed that numerous measures to improve food hygiene at the hospital are not taking place. Staff are undergoing food hygiene training courses, or refresher food safety courses in some cases, where they will learn everything from cleanliness and good practice to the proper handling, preparation and storage of food products.

The hospital’s kitchen has also been deep cleaned. A new management system has been put in place, where every staff member is made aware of their responsibilities and compliance is carefully monitored.
