Lilith Dark and the Beastie Tree

I started hearing about Lilith Dark several days ago as the Kickstarter campaign was getting close to launching.  The concept of Lilith Dark intrigued me and, as a Dad to a young daughter, I loved the idea of the main heroine being a young girl with a vivid imagination.  It sounds like something I would like, but really think we could enjoy it together.  So, it was a happy coincidence that I received this press release from Alterna Comics about Lilith Dark and wanted to pass it along to you:

Baltimore, MD – Local Baltimore artist and comic book creator Charles Dowd’s (CDowd) graphic novel “Lilith Dark and the Beastie Tree” is scheduled for a Spring 2014 release by New York Times Best Selling Publisher, Alterna Comics (http://AlternaComics.com). “Lilith Dark and the Beastie Tree” will collect issues 1-6 of the series. Single issues of the “Lilith Dark” comic book will also be available digitally under the Alterna Comics banner via Comixology soon.

About “Lilith Dark and the Beastie Tree” – “Lilith Dark and the Beastie Tree” tells the story of Lilith Dark, a young girl who imagines herself as a sword wielding adventurer and brave monster slayer. One day she discovers that there’s a tree full of actual monsters right across the street, and must do battle to save her family from the beastie menace.

The Lilith Dark character was born when her creator, Charles Dowd, visited a local comic book shop with his then 7-year-old daughter and quickly realized that there was practically nothing available on the shelf appropriate for her to read, other than a small handful of typical pink princess comics. The Lilith Dark comic book was created to both entertain young readers, as well as offer balance to the notion that “girls don’t read comics”. The Lilith Dark character is also noticeably absent of the common pink outfits that the majority of books and toys that are marketed toward young girls feature. The book also features beasties of all sizes, a T-Rex, and a kitten.

About CDowd – Charles Dowd is a Baltimore based illustrator who made the jump to creating comics in 2009. “Lilith Dark and the Beastie Tree” is his first full length graphic novel to receive national distribution. His work was recently featured in 2012′s “Winter’s Eye” anthology released by Raven Warren Studios.
