Light Art, a Unique Photography Technique

Posted on the 05 November 2011 by Vandanan @vandanan_m

Light art is a kind of photography technique in which you use cameras with long exposure time capabilities to photograph light. In other words, the camera shutter is kept open, long enough, say 10 or 40 seconds. Within this time, in an area with less, or no light, a light source is moved in a desired manner. This light is captured by the camera, and the result is something like this.

My name, wrote using an LED. By- Vandanan

The light source i used here was my very own makeshift led light pen. But, they can very from stuff that resemble light sabers to stencils .
Another important thing to keep in mind is that when you take these long exposure photographs, always use a tripod or any other surface that is stable. If any shakes do occur, the quality of the image will be affected, and moreover, whatever you write or draw will be ruined. so, to be sure, i used my tripod in this case.
How to adjust EXPOSURE IN POINT AND SHOOT CAMERAS-I have a point and shoot camera. the max. exposure, as per the reviews is 2 secs. But still, i tried to increase that somehow. Well, let us say that it turned out much more easier as i had supposed. I found that by selecting the 'fireworks' scene, and increasing 'EV' to max, i could extend my point and shoot's exposure to upto 10 seconds, which is much more than enough to write a single letter in air
Other ideas- Although I've only wrote, you can draw, paint, or use stencils. Have Fun! :)
