6.5 Les Enfants Gâtés, 4 rue Danville in the 14th, 01.40.47.56.81, closed Sundays and Mondays (Metro: Denfert-Rochereau) has been hovering on my "list" of "go to's" - but got shoved to the top by a strong endorsement from a trusted source - Laidback. I took one look at the menu and carte and despite a 12 E supplement or 31 E plat de jour price, decided on the ris de veau (BTW the cotes de boeuf was only 60 E for two). Settling in with some wine I was served:
- an unexpected but gloriously tasty amuse gueule of cold green asparagus soup
- an expectedly creamy and tasty mushroom soup with moules, artichoke hearts and mushrooms of Paris
- a slightly less impressive array of sweetbread morsels (why less impressive? - because while crisp on the outside they were not as moist as I like them on the inside and while the chopped potatoes in a nice "risotta" sauce in the center were fine, they couldn't improve the sweetbreads sufficiently enough, even with some salt)
- an impressive vacherin with ice cream, meringues and cherries, and
- an unexpectedly fine Nespresso.
My bill was elevated due to my ordering the 12 E supplement and a full bottle of wine, but for two, with 3-dishes at 34 = 68 E, plus a bottle of wine, no bottled water and two coffees, the fare would be 97 E. And it was relatively calm (81.0 dB) despite the non-stop chattering of a fellow pesky Yankee - the bread was above average.
Go? It's on Colette's agenda for next month.
