Paramount and New Regency have announced that Russell Crowe, the Oscar-Winning actor has officially signed on for the lead role in Darren Aronofsky’s Biblical Epic Noah’s Ark.
The film was written by Darren Aronofsky, Ari Handel and John Logan. Aronofsky, Scott Franklin of Protozoa Pictures and Mary Parent of Disruption Entertainment will produce. Filming of Noah begins July in Iceland and New York and Paramount will release the film on March 28th, 2014.
The film is a close adaptation of the biblical story, about the building of an ark to save humanity from a divine flood.
In a statement issued on April 22nd, 2012, Aronofsky said: “I’d like to thank Paramount and Regency for backing my team’s work to breathe new life into the biblical epic. I rejoice that Russell Crowe will be by my side on this adventure. It’s his immense talent that helps me to sleep at night. I look forward to being wowed by him everyday.”
