In a stunning editorial and interview with Teen Vogue Lea Michele said she called her debut album “Louder” because she comes from a (loud?) Italian family and she cannot stop talking. I think it would also be a great way to describe her voice- she has such amazing pipes on her. I recently saw her belt out “Cannonball” on The Tonight Show and live her voice seems even stronger! I am completely in love with that song. It’s very soaring and empowering, and talks about getting stronger after facing adversity. Lea has just been such a beacon of strength and positivity after losing Corey, it really seems like a personal song for her.
“During Glee, I felt like I was scratching that itch of being an artist. I was at a great place in my life and I was so unbelievably happy—my relationship with Cory made me feel like I could reach for the stars and more. So I was like, “I’m going to challenge myself and do this record now. It’s obviously pop, but I think it shows me off as a singer.”
When I was doing my “research” (read: enjoying a cup of coffee and reading everything Lea Michele) I came across a few quite negative reviews about Louder. That surprised me. I previewed the tracks and I found the album just stunning. Particularly the Rolling Stone Magazine was not impressed with the Lea Michele “show-tune-style belting”. I completely disagree! And so do millions of other people, so far Louder has hit number 1 in 11 coutries….and counting.
“My favorite song is, 100 percent, “You’re Mine.” I listened to it the other day—it was the one song I had the most emotional reaction to, just because that’s my relationship with Cory.”

And when you have a hit album…. a tour will follow of course. Lea Michele has just announced a summer 2014 mini world tour. And it does not stop there for her. She is working on a revival of Funny Girl for Broadway (Funny Girl was a big breakthrough for Barbara Streisand in 1964) and she will star in Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return movie, a 3-D extravaganza starring another Broadway legend Bernadette Peters. And then there’s Glee of course, the reason why we all fell in love with her in the first place. To me Lea is one of those timeless talents. You could easily imagine her as a movie star in the Hollywood golden age in the 1940s and 1950s, or just as well as the huge pop star she is now sure to become. An amazing debut.
