5.7 Le Café de la Nouvelle Marie, 19 rue Fosses Saint-Jacques in the 5th, (RER: Luxembourg) 01.44.07.04.41, closed weekends and taking no reservations at lunch, is one of those places that kept bouncing around in my head and popping up here and there and its creator was pointed out to me at another new hot place a few weeks ago - so I figured "Why not another gun-metal fascade, simple interior and interesting menu that looks like it changes often."

My new friends from my old stomping grounds in NY ordered the terrine of chicken livers with grapes and the faiselle of fresh goat cheese with herbs, both of which were better than honorable and I had what must be the last of the white asparagus in town with generous slices of parmesan - quite beyond honorable.

Then Madame had a second first, the hard-boiled eggs and Monsieur and I both had the sausage with lentils and carrots - nothing special, but good solid bistrot chow.  For dessert we shared the strawberries with Chantilly and a macaroon.

Our bill was 135.70 E but they had arrived 30 minutes early and muddied the waters with early coffees and wines, so to be fair, if a couple had 3 courses, a bottle of wine (the Ardeche not the the Ruben Saumur-Champigny shown), no bottled water and 2 coffees, their bill would look more like 84.80 E.

Go?  How can you not go to a place if you're staying/living in the neighborhood that has the down and dirty bistro food of your youth and a Turkish toilet.

Problems John?  Yes, of course - it's jammed with pesky fellow French folks, the delivery of plates is slow and the decibel level goes from 78 to the 80's.
