“Avoid men who call you Baby, and women who have no friends, and dogs that scratch at their bellies and refuse to lie down at your feet. Wear dark glasses; bathe with lavender oil and cool fresh water. Seek shelter from the sun at noon.”
― Alice Hoffman, Practical Magic
You know, I've always thought that men who call me 'baby', some with very thick Ibo accent I might add, have a lack of imagination and creativity. I mean, besides the obvious fact that this 5'6'' figure is past the height of a baby I have a name and there are very many ways to coin endearing names from it or just from the way that it is pronounced. It was a lovely friend who first called me Inez. I loved it and I will use it for forever. I've been called Chi, and Chinez, and Neze. Even, Mgbo (bullet) and God-dey-dodge. lol.
Yes, the last two stemmed from the meaning of Chineze. Which is actually a short form from the long name Chinezelumndilom (God protects me from my enemies).
Phew! African names always have meanings. Always.
So, you see the very many ways that my name can be made endearing?
