Landslide is one of those songs we understand more and more as we get older. I knew this song as a child but of course, I didn’t really understand it. At nearly 25 years old, I hear it now and can relate to the lyrics in so many ways. Stevie Nicks is a gifted poet and there’s so many great verses in this song.
Can the child within my heart rise above? Can I sail through the changing ocean tides? Can I handle the seasons of my life?
Well, I’ve been afraid of changing ’cause I’ve built my life around you. But time makes you bolder, children get older and I’m getting older too…
Those are my favorites.
Landslide was released as a single in 1975 from the band’s tenth album, Fleetwood Mac. It was one of the first songs Stevie contributed to the band after joining earlier that year. It went to #51 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and to #10 on the Adult Contemporary Chart.
The song has been covered by several other artists over the years including The Smashing Pumpkins (Listen HERE) and the Dixie Chicks (Listen HERE).
