Twin Peaks is set to return to the airways via Showtime next year. Its not a reboot however, as fans of the show will be happy to know that Kyle MacLachlan, who has been murdering around and causing chaos on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is set to reprise his role as FBI Agent Dale Cooper, in what’s being described as the shows third season. The reveal occurred during the Television Critics Association’s press tour, with MacLachlan saying:
I’m very excited to return to the strange and wonderful world of Twin Peaks. May the forest be with you.
David Lynch is set to direct all nine episodes. It’s said that Lynch and co-creator Mark Frost are promising closure for fans of the show.
It felt like only way you could do it is to have David committing to directing all of them and that’s what I was begging for. [The reboot is] something they’ve been toying with. And for David, 25 years was the magic number. There’s a reference in original, ‘I’ll see you in 25 years.’
Lynch also took it one step further, with tweeting a photo of MacLachlan in character, in his suit and holding his familiar cup of coffee.
