Today we’re taking a look at the Kilchoman Sanaig 2017. I’ve already done a deeper look at the Kilchoman Sanaig in a previous review so I don’t think I need to go into great depth here. But, essentially, the easiest way to think about the Sanaig is that it’s the opposite of the Kilchoman Machir Bay. Machir is mostly ex-Bourbon with some ex-Sherry casks used VS Loch Gorm which is mostly ex-Sherry with some ex-Bourbon used. Super simple.
Kilchoman Sanaig 2017 Review: Details and Tasting Notes
In Kilchoman’s Words: Kilchoman Sanaig 2017
“Sanaig, a small rocky inlet located north of the distillery and is the name given to the latest addition to the Kilchoman core range. Sanaig has a prodominantly Oloroso sherry cask influence. These aged Oloroso casks contribute a drastically transformed depth of color and character compared to the mostly Bourbon cask matured Machir Bay.”

Kilchoman Sanaig 2017 Review: OVERALL
I seriously love the Kilchoman Sanaig 2017… or any year of it so far. Like its brother-in-sherry, the Loch Gorm, it easily scratches that peat-n-sweet itch. From aroma to finish it’s layered with dark fruit, smoke and spice with everything working in unison. There’s nothing not to like about this whisky.
SCORE: 88/100 (B+)
