Keeping Employees Happy Keeps Them Loyal

Fostering employee loyalty is a very complex affair, but it’s crucial if you want your business to flourish and grow. Any business that cannot secure a sense of appreciation for the employees which come in a give you their life and dedication will soon learn that these employees will not be around for much longer. Everyone picks it up, and think about it, even though you’re a business owner, when you worked for someone, you noticed when your boss, didn’t notice you. Building loyalty is something that takes time, and the sooner you start, the more likely you are to have your business be emotionally attached to your staff. One of your main priorities then should be to make sure you’re openly allowing your staff to see that you care. Yes, this does mean making a bit of a show of it, but anything that sticks out will stick in the minds of those who work for you.

Have fortnightly meetings

Besides the weekly meeting you have with your managers, having a meeting with your staff in a much more informal manner is just as important. Although these meetings shouldn’t be every week, most certainly they can be every two weeks or so. In these meetings, you try to talk about something other than the actual work you’re demanding from your staff. Don’t talk about who has done what, and or who are falling behind; don’t single somebody out. These meetings should be more about the work environment and how stress can be better managed by all members. No matter if they’re superiors or your normal workforce, everyone in these meetings should be treated fairly. Be ready to hear some personal issues, like how someone’s family problems are having an effect on their performance, and how some members of the team may be having a fallout. This is a useful time to iron-out differences and improves relationships.

Make sure they’re heard

Human resources aren’t just there as per the legal need. Employees can use the HR service to bring formal complaints to your attention but through a professional body. As a small business, you may not have the funds to set up your own HR office, right in your building. However, this doesn’t mean you should be doing without. You can hire a company for your employment law services. The need to be well versed in applications, interviews, setting the right job descriptions as well as dealing with injuries and harassment laws, cannot be overstated. A small business needs to be just as advanced in dealing with staff with disabilities as well as women who are pregnant. When staff are assured that their concerns in these matters are taken seriously, and you have in place, professional procedures that are reliable and respond in very quick fashion, you limit fractures in your business.  

Creating a work environment which fosters loyalty is much about listening as is it about taking the appropriate action. When serious issues are brought to your attention, which could be about employees not getting along, or somebody has been injured, you should have in place a professional body or service that can give you the right legal course of action. Staff feel safer when you can take accurate and quick action for them, which bolsters a sense of relationship.
