“Shanghai Tales”
JUDY WU’s Autumn/Winter 2015 collection embodies the merge of Shanghai romanticism and modernity. Pastel solid colors, clashing prints and ounces of fur adorn key winter pieces – see trench and cape coats, fitted trousers and feminine dresses included in a collection that has been influenced and is vividly echoing Judy’s Chinese heritage.
The starting point of this collection was to feature the traditional Chinese-style window frame against the modern Shanghai skyscraper’s glass curtain wall thus creating an impact whilst achieving a balance between the past and the present.
Leather pieces have been shaped into frame and cloudlike patterns secured onto the tailored garments by rivet embellishments reminiscent of the previous romantic Shanghai from Judy’s grandmother’s stories. Using bold geometric prints and a vibrant color palette, Judy wanted to capture the neon lights of Shanghai nights.
Through sophisticated sleek silhouettes with clean style lines on subtly textured fabrics, there is an emphasis on modern design techniques with a carefree wearability.
