Posted on the 18 May 2013 by Azharnadeem

Advocate Chaudhry Aslam Ghumman, a lawyer who had filed a petition in judges’ confinement case, has withdrawn his complaint against former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf.

The surprising development came just a day before the hearing of case on Saturday by Anti-Terrorism Court Islamabad at the resident of former military ruler which has been declared a sub-jail.

Pervez Musharraf is accused of confining 60 judges of the superior courts for over five months at their homes and restraining them from administering justice.

While addressing to a press-conference, Aslam Ghumman he is withdrawing the complaint in the larger national interest, stressing there was no pressure on him to withdraw the case, neither from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) nor from military.

“I think that the trial of Gen Musharraf in such a state of affairs is not in the national interest and, therefore, I have decided to withdraw my complaint,” he said.

“Before taking the decision to withdraw the petition I also consulted my friends and it was taken after due deliberation.”

The Secretariat Police Station had lodged the case in August 2009, on the complaint of Advocate Ghumman.

There it is pertinent to mention that at least three lawyers have dissociated themselves from the case during the past couple of weeks. There are reports that the other two lawyers Qamar Afzal and Rizwan Abbasi are receiving threats from unknown people.
